The Ellen N. Lawson papers document the career of this educator, writer, historian and archivist. The collection includes research files on the Langenheim daguerreotypes, National City Bank (Cleveland), and African- Americans in Cleveland. Also included are examples of her writings, both for national and local publications. The collection also contains records relating to the development of the Women's Studies program at Oberlin College. Oral history interviews with Elberta Smith, Hope Hibbard and George Langeler are also part of this collection.

Ellen N. Lawson received the B.A. in 1966 from Swarthmore College and the Ph. D. in American History in 1977 from Case Western Reserve University. She moved to Oberlin in 1970, and taught Women's history (part-time) at Oberlin College, 1973-75. She was instrumental in the development of the Women's Studies Program, becoming an assistant dean, 1978-79, and a research associate, 1980-83.
